1. Diodes

Overview

Diodes are polarized; orientation matters. The line on the diode body must align with the line marking on the PCB silkscreen.

The following steps apply to all 35 diodes. Complete all steps for each diode one at a time, or perform each step across all diodes before moving to the next.

  1. Apply flux to the pads for a diode on the back side of the PCB.

    • This helps solder flow cleanly.

  2. Pre-tin the bottom-right pad.

    • This pad will be used to hold the diode in place.

  3. Position the diode.

    • The cathode stripe on the diode body must be on the same side as the silkscreen marking.

  4. Reheat the pre-tinned pad while pushing the diode into position.

  5. Solder the top-left pad.

    • Rotate the board beforehand if it makes it easier.

  6. Repeat the previous steps for all remaining diodes.
